Youth Ski Trip Review
The Zion Youth Group went on a Ski Trip to Winterplace in Ghent, WV February 14th - 18th. I've been on a lot of trips with these kids, but this one was probably my favorite! Most of us had never been skiing before and it showed. However, these kids refused to quit and continued to get up fall after fall, encouraging each other to keep trying. By the end of the weekend, everyone was enjoying themselves on the slopes and the group was CLOSER THAN EVER! Thank you to everyone who made this trip possible and my amazing Youth just for being who you are. God is good!
Much energy in our denomination has centered on the 2019 Special Session of the General Conference. As we approach this significant moment in the history of the United Methodist Church, Bishop L. Jonathan Holston invites us to pray together in a particular way as we remain focused on our mission.
Zion United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (or “ZUMVIM” as it is better known) was formed to help those in our own church and nearby community, who cannot do the work themselves or do not have the financial resources, with minor home repairs, yard work, splitting wood for home heating, driving folks to doctor appointments, and any other work that we can help to those needing assistance. ZUMVIM also serves as a liaison between Zion United Methodist Church and United Methodist mission groups such as Anderson District Volunteers in Mission (ADVIM), United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM), United Methodist Council on Relief (UMCOR), and UMVIM Early Response Teams (UMVIM ERT). This includes keeping Zion members informed on mission opportunities due to hurricanes, tornadoes, and other natural disasters, through these various agencies and facilitating member participation in those activities. Our members are also a primary resource for Emmanuel’s Hammer, whose mission is to share the love of Christ by rebuilding homes and lives in the Southeast United States. In 2018, ZUMVIM was involved in over 20 projects, accounting for over 1400 manhours. Our most recent projects included building 2 wheelchair ramps for church members after their surgery and driving a church member Monday through Friday for over a month for his radiation treatments. We do all this for our love of Christ and our commitment to help make people’s lives better.
