Staff/Pastor Parish Relations Committee – Responsible for overseeing the paid staff of the Church which includes at the present time the Pastor, Pianist, Organist, Choir Director, and Youth Director. Provides and insures that an open line of communication for the congregation to these paid staff positions is always open. Makes salary recommendations to the Administrative Council and also advises the District Superintendent on the feelings of the congregation regarding retention of the Pastor. Meets approximately once per quarter unless additional meetings are warranted.
Board of Trustees – Basic responsibilities include overseeing, maintaining and purchase of all properties and tangible items of the Church. Properties and tangible items include land, buildings, equipment and furnishings. Establishes budget to insure that yearly expenditures are covered. Meets approximately once per quarter. Much of the meeting work is accomplished through e-mail unless it is a major project requiring discussion.
Cemetery Committee – Responsible for updating and maintaining the cemetery database. Also responsible for triangulating gravesites and marking corners with iron pins prior to the funeral home digging a grave.
Safe Sanctuary Committee – Responsible for making sure that the Church has written procedures and guidelines to insure to the best of their abilities that our congregation and facilities are safe. This committee is also charged with assuring that all those working in areas that involve any type of security and safety of classrooms, special activities, etc., have been vetted thoroughly to include background checks.
Nominations/Leadership Development Committee - Responsible for identifying persons in the congregation who have the gifts and strengths to serve on the various committees in the Church, nominating them and asking them to serve. This committee is also responsible to monitor the progress of these individuals and evaluate their effectiveness in those positions.
Nurture Committee – Works to identify and help satisfy the spiritual needs of the congregation through the worship ministry, Sunday School, visitation, Bible studies, prayer groups, Confirmation, orientation and new member classes, fellowship gatherings (WNAZ), United Methodist Men, United Methodist Women, Youth Team, and Children’s Team. Provides a meal to members who have lost a family member. Normally meets once per quarter.
Worship Committee – Works directly with the Pastor to plan the flow of worship service to include special services throughout the year. Normally meets once per quarter.
Communion Stewards – Responsible for insuring that the elements (bread and juice) are prepared and placed in the Sanctuary on the first Sunday of each month and special communion services. Stewards are always needed for both services.
Visitation Team – Calls on members in their homes, in the hospital, and in nursing homes. Also provides communion on a quarterly basis to homebound members.
United Methodist Women – Actively involved in missions which includes providing four meals per year at the Mercy Center; supporting Clean Start for the homeless in Anderson County; providing cookies and notes for the Kairos Prison ministry twice a year; collecting bears at Christmas for distribution in nursing homes, fire and rescue teams, and the Red Cross; and collecting health kits, school supplies, and flood buckets during times of disaster or crisis.
United Methodist Men – Supports ministries that help others in need both in funding and hands-on work. Sponsors Scouting programs for both boys and girls. Presently sponsor four annual functions: Zion UMC Chili Cook-off; Ladies Banquet; Barbecue Dinner Fundraiser; and the Zion Volunteer Fire Department Appreciation Dinner. Meet once a month on the 3rd Sunday from 8-8:45 AM.
Youth Team – Responsible for working with our Youth Director to improve our programs to middle school and high school aged children.
Children’s Team – Responsible for planning and coordination of ministries and programs for our elementary aged children.
Outreach Committee – Evaluates, plans, coordinates, and implements the congregation’s Outreach ministries to include missions, health and welfare, interreligious concerns, and church and society issues. Ministries related to Outreach include Salkehatchie, scouting, global ministries, blood mobile, UMM, UMW, Family Promise, ZUMVIM.
ZUMVIM (Zion United Methodist Volunteers in Mission) – Assisting with mission opportunities through Anderson District Volunteers in Mission (ADVIM), United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM), United Methodist Council on Relief (UMCOR), and UMVIM Emergency Response Teams (UMVIM ERT). Some projects are helping to provide firewood to those in need; helping to build wheelchair ramps; working with other mission groups to build and repair houses for those in need; providing financial assistance to Zion’s Salkehatchie program and to needy families at Christmas; yard work and minor home repair for needy families.
Witness Committee – Evaluates, plans, coordinates, and implements the congregation’s Witness ministries, helping all know and respond to the love of God in Christ. This committee seeks ways to invite people to become a part of a community of faith and to help the Church consider and act upon its witness in the community. Some ministries related to Witness are: Lay Speaking Ministry, bulletins, Church directory, sign ministry, evangelism and visitation.
Finance Committee – Responsible for compiling the annual Church budget; recommending how funds are to be set up within the Church’s financial system; reviewing large expenditures, and approving, if appropriate; counting and depositing the weekly offering; establishing and maintaining internal control policies to include an audit of these policies on a yearly basis; providing for an annual audit of the Church’s financial statements and reporting the findings of the audit to the annual Charge Conference;.

It is the executive agency of the Charge Conference, which means that between meetings of the Charge Conference, the Administrative Council guides the Church. The Council consists largely of committee chairs. In addition are several “at large” members elected to the Council each year (usually in “classes” with three-year terms) to insure that the congregation is represented broadly in the leadership. The Administrative Council chairperson helps coordinate the agenda of the meetings, presides at the meetings, and works in conjunction with the pastor and members of the congregation to fulfill our mission.
